Cyma Watersport "waterproof" case
Price reduced from $195 to $175. All stainless steel case measures 38 mm long lug to lug by 22 mm wide not including the winding crown. The case is in very good condition with some minor pitting on the back. The back is secured to the bezel by means of four screws. The back is engraved "MRG PIALBA." Pialba is a city in Queensland Australia. The dial is original and in excellent condition. Hands also appear to be original. Crown is the original also and in good serviceable condition. The crystal is a brand new replacement, and is special in that it has a flange that compresses it against the case used in conjuction with a rectangular rubber gasket that seals the watch against moisture. The 17 jewel manual wind movement sets and winds perfectly. It keeps time to within two minutes per day but not known when last serviced. The Watersport was a series of watches made by Tavannes and also Cyma under license from Tavannes. The watch was advertised as "waterproof" but of course we know now that those claims were exaggerated and like all vintage watches is certainly not intended to be submerged now. The best models carried the Tavannes Caliber 335, which had an unheard-of 3-day power reserve. These were usually marked "335" right on the dials. This particular specimen has a movement with normal 30-hour run time. It comes with a new 16mm black leather band. A most interesting watch. Keep your eyes open for a re-release of this model (in three versions) by Tavannes some time in 2018!
